Bully Hotline now includes email and texting

To mark the 10th Anniversary of the Bully Hotline and as part of Bullying Awareness Week, Halifax Regional Police and Bell Aliant announced that kids, parents and teachers can reach out to the Bully Hotline by text and email messages in addition to phone calls.

Citizens who need advice about bullying issues or just need to talk about a bullying situation may call 490-SAVE (7283), text 233-SAVE (7283) or email bullyhotline@halifax.ca.

The Bully Hotline is answered from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily by a Halifax Regional Police School Response Officer.

The Bully Hotline was established in 1999 to serve as a resource for kids, parents and teachers alike as they are confronted with bullying issues.

Halifax Regional Police salutes Bell Aliant for helping to establish this important resource in our community and providing collateral materials to promote the Bully Hotline over the past ten years.

“This service is required because bullying continues to be a reality; the Bully Hotline is used countless times throughout the year and has received thousands of calls over the last decade. We are pleased to mark the 10th Anniversary by adding features that make the Bully Hotline more accessible, particularly to our youth,” says Supt. Don Spicer, HRM’s Public Safety Officer.

Citizens can obtain more information about the Bully Hotline and get tips for dealing with bullying situations on the HRP website at http://www.halifax.ca/Police/Programs/bullying.html or by becoming a fan of Halifax Regional Police on Facebook.
