Bunheads – Boo Who?

Where was Boo on Bunheads this week? I don’t recall anyone mentioning why she wasn’t around, though I’ll admit I was watching the episode while I prepared for my day this morning.

Ginny, Melanie, Sasha and Michelle on ‘Bunheads’

I’m really enjoying Bunheads this season. It’s frothy and fun, and it’s figured out how to write for each character and what the distinct relationships are. Boo’s absence was a blessing in a way. She’s delightful, but it meant we got to spend some more time with Ginny and Melanie, who were a little underused last season. In fact, Melanie is my favorite character. I always liked her quick wit, and her quirky personality is much better defined this season.

Having a breakdown was the best thing this show could have done with Michelle. Now we know she’s back for good, and I loved watching her and Fanny try and figure their lives out and create a viable business plan for the dance studio and their land. They’re friends now – family, really.

I’m interested to see what the show will do with Sasha. I like that actress quite a bit, and I think she’s done a good job of balancing being a sort of brooding kid from a troubled home and being smart and sassy enough to make you root for her. But she’s, what, 16? I can’t see her staying in Paradise without a parent. Obviously, her mother left her there assuming that the two weeks alone before the house was sold would change Sasha’s mind. But the show isn’t losing Sasha, and I’m not sure I’ll buy her moving in with Michelle or something. I hope this goes somewhere realistic.

The rest of the show continues to beat along, having found a great rhythm. I love “Paris Geller” as Truly’s all-business sister, I still love the mystery of Frankie and Cozette, and I like the marine biologist bartender. Last season, the plethora of similarities to Gilmore Girls bothered me, but I’m finally enjoying this show in its own right.

What did you guys think of “I’ll Be Your Meyer Lanksy”?
