Burger #38 – Beef & Blue Burger (Stubborn Goat)

When I first visited Stubborn Goat, I didn’t have the experience I had quite hoped for. I had heard so much hype about this new addition to the Halifax restaurant scene so when the burger I ordered wasn’t the greatest, I was sure that this was just a fluke and I knew I had to come back again and give them another shot.

During Burger Week I visited them again to try their Hellfire Burger, and I was really happy with my experience on this return visit (even if the spiciness of the burger brought tears to my eyes). I decided it was time to go back and try another one of their burgers, this time the Beef & Blue Burger.

Appearance (7.75/10)

If there is one thing I love, it’s a good presentation. I really like the serving plates that they use here (especially for other dishes where it is more of a board than a plate).

In terms of the burger itself, I was really impressed with how appetizing they made it look. The cheese looked plentiful, and the bacon instantly made my mouth water. I was really intrigued by the bun, and I could tell just by looking at it that it was super fresh.

Taste (8.25/10)

After my first bite, I was so happy that I had given these guys another chance. Where my first burger was kind of lacking, this one more than made up for it. The patty was really delicious and full of all those great burger juices. I was right with my assumption of the bun as it was really soft and it had a nice taste to it.

I enjoyed the contribution of the pickled onions because they gave a very refreshing feel to the burger. The bacon was nice and thick and was cooked to perfection. My favourite part of the burger was easily the cheese. There was tons of it piled on the patty, and the taste went perfectly with the other components of the burger. Despite being slightly messy, I really enjoyed the flavours that this burger provided!

Cost vs. What You Get (7.75/10)

The cost of this burger is $18. At first glance, this price would seem a little steep for a burger, but there are a couple things to keep in mind. The beef used is top notch and local, which really adds to the quality of this burger. There is also a lot of delicious blue cheese on there, and they don’t skimp on the bacon. Yes, this burger may not be one your wallet can afford all the time, but it is definitely worth it to treat yourself to this burger!

Overall (7.92/10)

I am really glad that I didn’t give up on Stubborn Goat after my first visit. With everything I had heard about them, I knew it must have been an off night. This burger regained my trust in this awesome establishment. The flavours that this burger produced were on point, and everything worked really well together. While the price is on the higher side, I would definitely recommend this burger.
