Call to 911 leads to arrest of impaired driver

Just before 10:30 p.m. last evening, Halifax District RCMP responded to a 911 call of a possible impaired driver on Highway 103 outbound.

The vehicle, a 2013 Honda Civic, was reported to be swerving at fluctuating speeds and driving towards oncoming traffic. The 911 caller continued to drive at a safe distance behind the suspect vehicle and directed RCMP to the suspect vehicle. The driver was arrested and breath samples determined they were more than three times the legal limit.

A 26-year-old woman from Black Point is facing charges for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operating a Motor Vehicle Over the Legal Limit. She is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on August 13.

“The actions of the person who called 911 saved lives last evening,” say’s Cpl. Dal Hutchinson, Halifax District RCMP. “Impaired driving continues to be one of the leading causes of death on our roads in Canada and it’s time people start thinking about the impacts that their actions can have on others before getting behind the wheel impaired.”
