Canada Games Update

The Halifax 2011 Canada Games Host Society has found accommodations for freestyle athletes at the Holiday Inn in Truro, Nova Scotia after spending the night at Windsor Park in Halifax. This move will decrease the travel time for athletes competing at Ski Wentworth.

The Host Society thanks the Department of National Defence for its support yesterday in accommodating athletes overnight.

“The Canada Games is a marquee event for our domestic athletes, so we are happy with the athlete-oriented solution provided and with the expediency in which the host society was able to resolve the accommodation situation. This certainly demonstrates the commitment of the host to the athletes and to the Games as a whole.  Now the athletes can focus on their performance on the courses and the excitement of being able to represent their home provinces at the Canada Winter Games,” said Peter Judge, CEO Canadian Freestyle Ski Association.

Freestyle competition will be delayed one day to allow athletes to rest and get settled before training tomorrow.

REVENUE UPDATE

Roughly $130,000 in tickets have been sold since the start of the Games on Friday. This puts the Host Society’s total ticket sales at $880,000 – 88 per cent of the overall ticket revenue target of $1 million, with 13 days of competition remaining.
