At 9:55 a.m., police responded to a shoplifting call at the Canadian Tire located at 6203 Quinpool Road after a man left the store without paying for several pieces of clothing. A security guard who attempted to stop the suspect leaving the area in a vehicle had to jump out of the way of the vehicle to avoid being hit. The vehicle collided with two parked vehicles, one of which rebounded into a third vehicle, before fleeing at a high rate of speed towards Monastery Lane. The suspect was later arrested on Prospect Bay Road and the stolen property was recovered.

A 35-year-old Harrietsfield man is being held in custody. He is facing charges of theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, assault with a weapon, fleeing the scene of an accident, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and three counts of mischief. Investigators anticipate that the man will be remanded tonight and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court on Monday.
