Canadians struggle in Round 1 at World Jr. Surfing Champ.

It was a tough day in the water for Team Canada at the 2009 World Junior Surfing Championship in Ecuador.

Four surfers from Tofino, British Columbia are at the competition, and all four were in the water on in the first round of competition on Sunday.

Simon Bauer was in the water first in the boys under-16 category. He finished fourth in his heat.

Bauer was followed by Frazer Laine-Mayor in the boys under-18 category. He finished third heat.

Janek Peladeau had the best showing among the four Canadians finishing second in his under-18 heat behind Medi Veminardi of France.

Janek also had the top wave among Canadians scoring a 6.50 in what were fair conditions at left-leaning surf break at Playa de las FAE in Salinas, Ecuador.

Kye Peladeau was the final Canadian in the water finishing third in his under-18 heat.
