Car theft discovered after unexpected bank card charges

Halifax Regional Police have charged a man in relation to the theft of a vehicle that occurred in Halifax on the weekend.

On March 9, at approximately 2 p.m., officers received a report of a motor vehicle that had been stolen in the area of the 2200 block of Maitland Street. The owner of the vehicle received notification that his bank card had been used. He went to check his vehicle where he had left his wallet and found that the vehicle had been stolen.

At approximately 7:35 p.m., officers attempted to stop the stolen vehicle on Primrose Street in Dartmouth. The driver of the vehicle stopped and fled on foot. Officers arrested the man in the area a short time later.

A 34-year-old man, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face the following charges:

  • Theft over $5,000
  • Fraud under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
