Celebrate Canadas Parks Day, July 21

Nova Scotia’s provincial parks are ready to welcome families and visitors with fun activities and unique learning experiences on Canada’s Parks Day, Saturday, July 21.

“Nova Scotians love their parks, as do many of the tourists who visit our province each year,” said Lands and Forestry Minister Iain Rankin. “Our parks provide access to some of the best opportunities to enjoy the rich natural and cultural heritage within our province. I encourage everyone to celebrate Canada’s Parks Day by seeing what our parks have to offer.”

Canada’s Parks Day events include:
— make and fly a kite, 10 a.m. to noon and interactive forest firefighting display with Smokey Bear, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m., Blomidon Provincial Park, Kings Co.
–- barbecue, Five Islands Provincial Park, Colchester Co., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
— paddling basics, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and wildlife basics and outdoor activities, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Dollar Lake Provincial Park, Halifax Co.
–- barbecue, live entertainment, face painting, crafts, nest box building, Shubenacadie Provincial Wildlife Park, Colchester Co., 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Learn 2 Camp program, which teaches camping basics and includes a night of camping, takes place July 21 and 22 at Dollar Lake Provincial Park.

“Learn 2 Camp introduces people, including many new Canadians, to the natural beauty of provincial parks and the joys of camping,” said Mr. Rankin.
