Celebrate our 118th Natal Day

Tuesday, July 30, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – It’s time to celebrate our 118th Natal Day, from July 31 to August 5, 2013.

There is something for everyone, with a total of 30 events taking place throughout Halifax and Dartmouth. Enjoy family events, live concerts, the longest parade in Atlantic Canada and an elaborate fireworks show launched from the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge.

Here are some of the highlights:

Natal Day kicks off on Wednesday, July 31 with free birthday cake in Grand Parade with Mayor Savage and members of Regional Council.

On Saturday, August 3, Alderney Ferry service will be offered free of charge, compliments of Molson Coors and Q104. Metro Transit is pleased to partner with Molson Coors and Q104 this year to provide passengers with a safe and accessible mode of transportation. Extended Alderney Ferry service will be provided on Saturday and Sunday to accommodate the many citizens planning to attend Natal Day events around the city. Check out the Bell Aliant and Q104 Natal Day Concert Saturday, August 3 from 5:30 p.m. until Sunday, August 4, 12:30 a.m. Acts include: Joel Plaskett Emergency, Slowcoaster, Will Be Gones, Young River, Mo Kenney, and Rachel Sermanni.

There are lots of opportunities for family fun. The Mother Goose Festival presented by the Dartmouth Kiwanis Club on Saturday, August 3, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., will have free crafts, games, storytelling, and bouncy castles. Or later in the day join Mayor Savage and local councillors for the annual Garden Party at the Public Gardens from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., and enjoy free refreshments, children’s activities, a visit from the Care Bears, and magicians. On Sunday, August 4 from 1:00 p.m. until 7 p.m., the Natal Day Family Celebration on the Common presented by GoodLife Fitness, offers children’s activities, bouncy castles and train rides.

Catch the Halifax Harbour Bridges Natal Day Fireworks on Saturday, August 3, starting at 10:00 p.m. View from the Natal Day Concert at Alderney Landing, or anywhere along the waterfront that the bridge is visible. The rain date is August 4.

The 118th Pepsi Natal Day Parade presented by The Chronicle Herald takes place Monday, August 5, at 10:00 a.m. from Novelea Drive across the Macdonald Bridge to Sullivan’s Pond. See the route map at www.natalday.org.

Take a walk across the MacDonald Bridge 31 Annual Bridge Walk on Monday, August 5, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
