Mayor Mike Savage and members of Regional Council are inviting residents to join them at the annual lighting of the Dartmouth Christmas Tree, and other family-friendly events this Saturday, Dec. 3, at Sullivan’s Pond.
Between 4:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m., residents of all ages can enjoy a number of holiday-themed activities including: the Kiwanis Santa Claus Express Train; a visit from Santa Claus; The Asia & NuGruv Christmas Show; the lighting of the tree; fireworks; and free hot chocolate, cookies, candy canes and glow sticks (while supplies last). A municipal fire truck and local mascots HRP Blue and Holiday Penguin will also be onsite at Sullivan’s Pond throughout the event.
At 6:15 p.m., residents are invited to join carollers in a procession down Ochterloney Street to the Chirstkindlmarket Festival at Alderney Landing. Motorists should be aware that there will be a rolling closure of Ochterloney Street from Sullivan’s Pond to Alderney Landing between 6:15 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Additionally, street closures will be in effect to accommodate this event from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Crichton Street, between Ochterloney Street and Dahlia Street, and new this year, Ochterloney Street will also be closed between Crichton Street and Prince Albert Road, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Please note Efficiency Nova Scotia has retired their LED Holiday Light Exchange program, so there will be no opportunity to exchange your lights at the TD Dartmouth Tree Lighting this year.
