Centennial Pool now closed for renovations

Tuesday, August 13, 2013 (Halifax, NS) – Extensive renovations are now underway at one of Halifax’s landmark recreational facilities, Centennial Pool.

When completed, the renovations are expected to extend the life of the facility by another 20 years.

Centennial Pool opened 45 years ago in preparation for the first Canada Summer Games in 1969. As part of a three-phase project, a major energy retrofit to the 50-metre pool facility concluded last year and now it’s time to tackle the other parts of the facility in need of improvement.

This third phase will improve the customer areas of the facility, including the change rooms and front desk foyer.

Bids closed for the third phase of the project on June 27, 2013. The winning bid was awarded to Bird Construction ($791,900).

The pool has to be closed for these renovations because it will involve extensive work to the public areas including the change rooms, showers, and reception area.

HRM has worked with the various aquatic teams and pool users to help accommodate their needs at other city facilities while Centennial Pool is closed.

It’s expected the pool will re-open In December. HRM apologizes for any inconvenience these renovations may cause and thanks you for your patience.
