A steering committee has been in place to get the project moving forward for months, I like the idea of community grocery stores and this great to see a project like this gaining momentum, there are lots of great spaces in that neighbourhood to setup something like this as well.

Mission

Our Vision Statement:

“To create a successful community-owned and community-oriented grocery market business, offering affordable, healthy and environmentally responsible food.”

Mission:

Healthy Food: The store will feature fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy bread and meat from local producers. We will also be stocked with all manner of dry goods with an emphasis on health and nutrition.

Environmental Responsibility: We will aim to provide the customer with the option to purchase organic and sustainably harvested goods.

Affordability: Our goods will be sold at the lowest manageable prices in order to compete with the big name grocery stores while allowing us to function as a sustainable Co-Operative business.

Local Community: A welcoming atmosphere and customer satisfaction will be of utmost importance. In the near future we hope to work with the local organizations, businesses and residents of the community to meet their needs. We are aiming to locate our store south of North Street and between Barrington and Agricola Street.

A fully articulated Mission Statement will be drafted and posted here as soon as possible.

Description

We are a volunteer group that is aiming to create a Co-op Grocery Store in North End Halifax. Our steering committee was formed 9 months ago and we are currently in the planning and development stages.

What is a Co-op?
