Charge laid in vehicle/pedestrian collision

Halifax Regional Police have laid a charge for a vehicle/pedestrian collision that occurred in Halifax last December.

On December 5, 2013, at 8:26 p.m., a 17-year-old female pedestrian was hit by a black vehicle while crossing Charles Street at Agricola Street in a crosswalk. The vehicle stopped and the male driver spoke with the pedestrian; however, no information was exchanged. The pedestrian suffered minor injuries and reported the matter to police the following day.

Yesterday, the 24-year-old male driver attended police headquarters and was issued a summary offence ticket under section 125(1) of the Motor Vehicle Act for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk. This ticket carries a fine of $693.95 and four points on a driver’s license upon conviction.

This incident was previously publicly reported.

Road safety is a shared responsibility. Motorists are reminded to slow down, pay attention and adjust their driving for the conditions. There is a crosswalk at every intersection, whether it is marked or not, and drivers must yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk.
