Release:
Pictou District RCMP have charged a 40-year-old man from Millbrook, following an incident in Pictou County on August 8.
At 10:35 p.m. Pictou District RCMP was dispatched to an assault that had occurred at a home on Nelson Rd. in Millbrook, where a man assaulted a woman, was in possession of firearms and made threats towards police if they attended. The victim left the home on foot and called 911. Three other people were in the home.
While setting up containment, members heard gun shots coming from the home that they believed were fired in their direction. Within a few minutes, a vehicle left the home and approached the members on scene. The vehicle driver was directed to stop as they approached the containment area. They complied and the female driver and male passenger were taken into custody without incident. It was determined that the suspect was still in the home and the two people were transported to the Pictou District RCMP Detachment and later released.
At approximately 4 a.m., the RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT) approached the home, a woman came out and she was transported to the detachment. The suspect stood on the deck of the home and refused to follow police commands. Members used a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW) and the suspect was arrested without further incident. He was transported to hospital for minor injuries.
A search of the home resulted in the seizure of several firearms, body armour and ammunition.
Jason Sterling Carpenter, 40, was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court on August 10. He is charged with:
· Assault
· Careless Use of a Firearm
· Uttering Threats
· Unsafe Storage of Firearms
· Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
The investigation is ongoing.
