HRP release:

On October 25 at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers responded to a bomb threat at Halifax Shopping Centre, located at 7001 Mumford Road in Halifax. Staff reported that a youth entered a store, handed someone a note stating they had a bomb and then immediately left. Mall security began evacuating the mall immediately.

The initial responding officers began looking for the suspect and potential bomb. Additional officers assisted with the safe evacuation of the patrons. There were no reports of physical injuries.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., officers located and arrested the suspect on scene and determined the threat was unfounded. The mall was reopened shortly after. There were no reports of suspicious packages in the mall and none were located.  

A 13-year-old youth is scheduled to appear in Halifax youth court at a later date to face a charge of mischief.
