Charges after hotel stabbing/police pursuit incident

Halifax Regional Police have charged a man in relation to a stabbing that occurred yesterday in Dartmouth.

At approximately 3:05 a.m., on December 20, 2023, police responded to a report of a stabbing at Lake City Motel located at 40 Lakecrest Drive. Officers located a 30-year-old man who had been stabbed. The man was taken to hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries.  

The suspect, who was known to the victim, left the scene in a vehicle. At approximately 3:45 a.m. officers observed the vehicle on Wyse Road. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle however, the suspect refused to stop and crashed a short distance away at a park in the area of Wyse and Albro Lake Roads. The driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital for precautionary measures.

Peter Guy Joseph Monteith, 47, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Attempted murder
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
