Charges Laid After Bedford Weapons Incident

Police have charged a man with weapons offenses in relation to an incident that occurred in Bedford this weekend.

On February 16 at approximately 9:43 a.m., police responded to a report of a man in possession of a firearm inside a residence in the 600 block of Rocky Lake Drive in Bedford. Officers blocked traffic on Rocky Lake Drive and were in the process of advising nearby residences when the man exited the residence unarmed and was taken into custody without incident.

The residence was searched and a loaded rifle and ammunition was seized.

Tu Tuan Donny Tran, 39, of Bedford was wanted on an unrelated warrant and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm contrary to Section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm contrary to Section 91(2) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized contrary to Section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized contrary to Section 92(2) of the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited firearm contrary to Section 95(1) of the Criminal Code
