Charges Laid after Sexual Assault in Halifax

Halifax Regional Police have charged a man in connection with a sexual assault that occurred last evening in Halifax.

Shortly after 5 p.m., a man approached a 37-year-old woman who was standing outside a building on the 5600 block of Spring Garden Road and asked her for a cigarette. Two other men then approached, one of whom then put his arm around the woman and forced his lips on her neck. The woman pushed the man away and ran into the building where she notified security, who then called police. None of the men were known to the woman.

Police were able to locate the three men shortly after the incident at the corner of Spring Garden Road and Brunswick Street and the suspect was arrested without incident. The two other men were not charged in relation to this incident.

Thirty-four-year old Ian Hegloy Ludlow Gardner of Halifax was held in custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face charges of sexual assault and breach of a recognizance.
