Nova Scotia RCMP Southwest Nova Major Crimes Unit has charged the two men involved in the incident in Berwick yesterday.
A traffic stop at Exit 15 on Hwy. 101 led to an interaction between a police officer and a 26-year-old man, which resulted in the discharge of a firearm. The male driver then fled the area. The 26-year-old was arrested a short time later, in the nearby woods, while the 20-year-old passenger remained in the vehicle and was arrested as well.
Dhari Salman Shalaan, 26, of Halifax, is charged with Escaping Lawful Custody, Assaulting a Peace Officer, and Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer.
Treyton Alexander Marsman, 20, of Lakeside, in the Halifax Region, is charged with one count of Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer.
Both men will appear in Kentville Provincial Court today, and further charges are pending against them. The RCMP has closed Hwy. 101 since the time of the incident, as investigators examine the scene for evidence. The investigation is ongoing.
