Charges laid in Loretta Saunders homicide

A man and a woman face charges in connection with the homicide of Loretta Saunders.

On February 17, 26-year-old Loretta Saunders was reported missing to police by her family. She was last seen in Halifax on February 13. On February 18, her car was located in Harrow, Ontario and two suspects were arrested for the theft of her vehicle and remanded into custody.

Yesterday afternoon, Loretta’s disappearance was determined to be a homicide. Her remains were located in New Brunswick later that day. Her remains have been transported to the Coroner Services office in St. John, New Brunswick where an autopsy will be conducted in the coming days.

This afternoon, investigators in the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit laid charges against 28-year-old Victoria Henneberry and 25-year-old Blake Leggette. They are scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court tomorrow to each face a charge of first degree murder.

This investigation would not have been possible without teamwork. We extend our thanks to the RCMP in New Brunswick and Ontario Provincial Police for helping investigators in our HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit for bringing this case to a successful conclusion so swiftly.

We are hopeful that these charges will bring some sense of closure to Loretta’s family and friends. We extend our sincere sympathies to them.
