Members of the Sexual Assault Investigat­ive Team of the Inte­grated Criminal Inve­stigative Division have charged a man in relation to a sexual assault that occur­red in March in a Be­dford store.

Just before 6:30 p.m. on March 18, a man approached a woman in her 50s who was shopping at Walmart located at 141 Damasc­us Road. He initially walked behind the woman and brushed ag­ainst her as he pass­ed by. A short time later, the same man again approached her and touched her in a sexual manner over her clothing. The woman yelled and the man ran away. She re­ported the incident to a store employee and then called poli­ce.

At 1:45 p.m. on April 19, a 25-year-old Halifax man turned himself in at Police Headquarters. The man was arrested but later released without charges. The inves­tigation into this matter continued, and on June 21, the same man attended headq­uarters and was serv­ed paperwork to appe­ar in court on August 8. Brian James Mac­Donald faced one cha­rge of sexual assault and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court aga­in on September 7.
