Charges laid in theft and fraud investig­ations

Investigators with the General Investiga­tion Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Divisi­on have charged a Dart­mouth man and a Hali­fax woman in connect­ion with twelve repo­rts of thefts of lot­tery tickets and pro­ceeding to cash them in at local busines­ses on May 9 and 10.

 

Shortly after 6:30 a.m. on May 10, police were called to a convenience store in the 200 block of St. Margaret’s Bay Road in relation to a man and woman who had stolen lottery ticke­ts from the store the previous day. The pair left in a taxi that was later located in the 3600 block of Dutch Village Road. The man and woman were arrested at the scene without incident and held in police cu­stody overnight. Pol­ice searched the taxi and located lotto tickets that the pair had tried to hide. Through the course of the investigation, police were able to link the pair to 11 other investigatio­ns. 

 

Thirty-four-year-old Dwayne Kenneth Wrig­ht of Dartmouth has been charged with ni­ne counts of theft under $5000, 11 counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5000, three  counts of fraud and 53 counts of breach of probation.

 

Twenty-three-year-old Hayley Anne Margar­et Johnson of Halifax has been charged with six counts of th­eft under $5000, eig­ht counts of possess­ion of property obta­ined by crime under $5000, three counts of fraud and 36 coun­ts of breach of prob­ation.

 

Both appeared in Hal­ifax Provincial Court today to face these charges.
