UPDATED 5:00pm 11/22/11 Two men face charges in connection with the homicide on Saturday night
in Spryfield.

At 10:30 p.m., two women out for a walk located an injured man lying on
the sidewalk of the bridge on Drysdale Road. They called for help and
another man checked the injured man and determined he was in medical
distress and called police. Police and EHS attended and 70-year-old
Glenn Francis Oakley was transported to hospital where he was pronounced
deceased. Mr. Oakley died as a result of a gunshot and his death was
ruled a homicide.

The investigation by the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit led to a
person of interest, a 17-year-old male youth from Spryfield, being
identified and arrested without incident at 10:43 p.m. on Sunday night.
The investigation continued and a second person, an 18-year-old man also
from Spryfield, was arrested Monday afternoon. Today, an 18-year-old man
from Spryfield was arrested at 12:07 p.m. and a search of a building on
River Road resulted in the seizure of a firearm that investigators
believe was used in this incident.

In addition to the 17-year-old male youth who was scheduled to appear
in Halifax Youth Court today, two men also face charges in connection
with this incident and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court tomorrow.
The 18-year-old man arrested on Monday afternoon faces charges of first
degree murder, robbery with a firearm, possession of stolen property,
fraudulent use of a credit card and possession of a weapon for a
dangerous purpose. The charges against the 17-year-old will be amended
to match these charges and investigators have not ruled out the
possibility of additional charges. The 18-year-old man arrested today
faces charges of accessory after the fact and possession of stolen
property. While the case remains open, the investigators are not looking
for any additional suspects.
