Checkpoint on Macdonald Bridge catches four impaired drivers

HRP release:

On May 31, officers conducted an early morning traffic checkpoint on the Dartmouth side of the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge to combat impaired driving. Between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m., officers encountered four impaired drivers.

Within half an hour:

  • A 32-year-old man was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance. An arrest occurs when a driver’s blood alcohol concentration is over of 80 mg%
  • Two drivers were issued 7-day licence suspensions for having a blood alcohol concentration between 50 mg% and 79 mg%
  • One driver was issued a 24-hour licence suspension for being a novice driver and having a level of alcohol in their system under 50 mg%

All four vehicles were seized.
