Investigators assigned to the HRP/RCMP Integrated Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) have charged a 14-year-old male youth for making and distributing child pornography.

On April 8, investigators became aware of a video posted on a social media site of a 15-year-old female youth performing a consensual sexual act with a 14-year-old male youth. The investigation determined that the suspect took a video of the act, without the consent of the victim, at a party where alcohol was consumed. The suspect later posted the video on a social media site.

On May 2, the ICE Unit executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and seized a cell phone containing the video related to this investigation. The social media site deleted the video and cooperated with the police investigation after they were made of its presence. On May 24, the suspect turned himself in at police headquarters and was arrested without incident.

A 14-year-old male youth from the Preston area faces charges of possession of child pornography, making child pornography and making available child pornography. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Youth court on June 20, 2013.
