Chives: An Extraordinary Casual Farewell

Just got in after a wonderful evening of delicious food and great company.  It’s Jaime’s last week here in Halifax, so we’ve planned a few things to send her off, including a fancy dinner.

I brought a bottle of Riesling, so we indulged in a few drinks before hand.

Ang arrived to pick us up shortly after I got to Jaime’s.  She was our chauffer for the evening. 😉 Thanks again! I hadn’t seen her in a few weeks and the change amazed me.  As you can see she’s got a lovely preggers glow!  Jaime’s friend Cosette was kind enough to snap a few pictures of us all dolled up.

We headed downtown, picking up Tash along the way.  Arrived at Chives fashionably late! 😉

The four of us,  don’t we look fabulous?! I ♥ this picture.

So, are you ready to drool?!  It will be quite obvious from my pics that there was no calorie counting happening. 😉

We started off with drinks.  I ordered a glass of Benjamin Bridge Nova 7.  Mmm, love it!  I managed to savour one glass the entire night. ;)  With lots of water breaks.

From their website:
Chives Canadian Bistro focuses everyday on utilizing fresh, in-season, and local product in our menus. We look first to Nova Scotia for our ingredient base, then to the rest or the Maritimes to create our "Canadian Bistro" menus.

Working closely with the farmers and independent producers of Nova Scotia has been the foundation of our reputation for serving the best food to our restaurant guests, we will continue to use locally raised and grown products, in-season and at the peak of freshness.

Pre-appys, their famous buttermilk biscuits were served.

They were warm, crispy on the outside and perfect with butter and molasses!

For my first course, I chose the Mussels "Normandy"Fresh Indian Point mussels with Tideview cider, rosemary, honeycrisp apple, roast garlic cream, and charbroiled baguette.

The cream sauce with sliced apple sticks was phenomenal.

My main course was the Lobster & Asparagus and RisottoCreamy Italian rice with Atlantic lobster, Caribou Island asparagus, Parmesan cheese, and lobster bisque.

I believe there were points through out my meal where I actually closed my eyes to savour each morsel.  Superb!  A very creamy risotto, generous portions of lobster meat and the asparagus.

This dish could very much top my fav Lobster Linguini from the Blomidon Inn.

I declined dessert but welcomed coffee while the others indulged.  A truly memorable evening, full of lots of laughter and and chatter.  We closed the restaurant down after being there for almost 3 hours. :)

I will be going back to Chives, no question about it!  The service was great, the food was delicious and the setting was relaxing yet chic.

Thanks for such a great time ladies!
