Chuck: Monday Night’s Alright for Fighting

This season of Chuck has had more twists than a bad of Twizzlers. Heck, each episode is like a [pretzel in itself, twisting and turning every time you think you know what’s going on. And last night’s episode was the best yet. (This season, I mean. But it’s pretty high up there on the list of Great Chuck Episodes as well.)
We picked up where we left off last week – Casey found out that Chuck’s mom is evil and Sarah arrested her behind Chuck’s back – and before she had a chance to talk to Ellie. Even with Mama Bartowski in CIA custody, she still had us guessing whether she’s good or bad. At this point, I’ve given up trying to guess.
Chuck was mad at Sarah for arresting his mother behind his back (as one would be…) so he decided to talk to his mom on his own. She, of course, convinced him that she’s good by telling him that in order to protect her family she had to denounce the CIA and pretend to go rogue. Really though, she was working with MI6 – and she could direct him to the one guy who could verify the whole story. Bond!
Yes, Chuck was sent to track down Timothy Dalton, who was playing the bumbling MI6 handler Gregory Tuttle. Tuttle was like an older version of Morgan – sweet, unassuming and rather talentless. The action came when Chuck and Tuttle had to jump out of a plane to escape a Volkoff agent, and then again when Chuck and Sarah had to battle the agents in a bank, right in front of Mama Bartowski and Tuttle.
The bickering between Sarah and Chuck was pretty funny, and Morgan was on fire this week – I’m loving the way he compares his relationship to Casey to Chuck’s relationship with Sarah, and his interactions with Chuck’s mom were great. And Ellie finally got a scene that didn’t make me want to barf when she finally got to have a heartfelt discussion with her mom. When her mom mentioned the ’68 Mustang that the family used to own, Sarah realized that her dad had still been sending her messages in the classifieds. An ad for that car had appeared every day since her father’s death. She and Awesome went to pick up the car, which is veeeeery important.
The big twist, of course, came when Chuck and Sarah brought his mom and Tuttle back to his dad’s office, or underground work studio, or whatever it is. They were supposed to be playing a disc that would prove Mama Bartowski was working for MI6, but it was blank. Instead, Mama B played a video for Chuck that seemed to delete his intersect. Gah! Then Tuttle, who was supposed to be bleeding to death back at the bank, showed up and announced that HE IS VOLKOFF!!!! Double gah! Did NOT see that one coming.
Volkoff intended to blow up all of Orion’s work, along with Chuck and Sarah, but Mama Bartowski – even if she is totally evil and works for the enemy – was not going to let Chuck die. She secretly handed a razor blade to Sarah so they could be saved, but all of Chuck’s dad’s work is gone.
What an episode! Mama Bartowski is officially evil, for now at least. Chuck is intersect-less, for now at least. And Ellie has a really good storyline, for now at least. Are you loving this season as much as I am?
