City Council Approves Security Camera Contract For Metro Transit

In a move that will surely make late night bus riders (and drivers) happy, Halifax City Council has approved a 1.28 million dollar tender to outfit all transit buses with video surveillance cameras.   Read on for more..

Amy Pugsley Fraser over at the Chronicle-Herald has the story:

“Metro Transit had been planning to phase in cameras over the next five years but stepped up the timeline in the wake of serious assaults on drivers over the past 18 months. Most recently, a passenger groped a female driver after midnight one night this summer on the No. 20 bus, which goes to Herring Cove.”

Our own informal poll here on Haligonia.ca had respondents split evenly between whether or not they have experienced violence on Metro Transit.
