Climbers rescue credited to team work, Chimney Corner, N.S.

On August 13th, a daring rescue by Inverness County Emergency Services and a number of good samaritans occurred at Chimney Corner, near Inverness.

At 5:00 p.m., three individuals were climbing a rock face when one of the large boulders dislodged toppling onto a 29-year-old female from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

RCMP, Margaree Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Health Services(EHS) responded to the 911 call.

Due to the location of the incident, the victim, who suffered serious injuries, was lowered to the water by rescuers and transported via marine vessel to shore. She was then transported by EHS to the Inverness Consolidated Hospital and later taken by EHS Life Flight to a Halifax area hospital. She remains in stable condition.

The Inverness RCMP would like to acknowledge the extraordinary dedication and efforts of EHS, the Margaree Volunteer Fire Department and a number of Good Samaritans ranging in age from 14 to 60 years old. All are to be commended for what was a precarious and challenging rescue.

The RCMP would also like to remind the public that our coastlines are exposed to weather which can affect the stability of cliffs and rocks, posing danger even for those who are familiar with the area. Avoid walking close to the cliff edge and do not partake in any kind of cliff activity unless fully trained, supervised and have the correct safety equipment.
