Cogswell and Trollop Streets Closed for Hockey Night in Canada Play On! Halifax Event

Thursday, June 15, 2017 (Halifax, NS) – Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents and motorists that the Emera Oval, Trollope and Cogswell Streets will be closed over the next few days for the annual Hockey Night in Canada Play On! Halifax street hockey tournament. Cogswell Street between Robie and North Park streets will be closed Thursday, June 15 at 6:00 p.m. and will re-opening again Sunday, June 18 at 10:00 p.m. Trollope Street between the Cogswell Street roundabout and Bell Road will be closed Friday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m. and will re-open Sunday, June 18 at 4:30 p.m. Staffed barricades will be in place around the clock at entrances to both closed streets. During the closure, traffic cones will be placed along the left turning lane on Quinpool Road to prevent motorists from travelling through to Cogswell Street at Robie. The Cogswell Street roundabout will be reduced to one lane throughout the closure to ensure motorists don’t attempt to travel down Cogswell Street or Trollope Street. New this year the municipality will be installing ‘Special Event’ signage on North Park Street adjacent to the Common between Cornwallis and Cogswell Streets and on Bell Road between Trollope and Robie Streets.  These areas are to be used for drop off and pick up of participants and event related materials. Drivers must stay with their vehicle.  Any parked vehicles will be in danger of being ticketed and/or towed. While the Emera Oval will be closed for the duration of the street hockey tournament, staff will be on hand for those wanting to borrow scooters or skateboards to use in the nearby skateboard park. Washroom facilities will also be open throughout the weekend. Residents are advised there will be no parking on the closed streets or on the North and Central Common during the event. Regular parking restrictions will resume when the streets re-open Sunday night. Sports fields in the North Common area are open for regularly scheduled league play throughout the weekend. In fact, a softball tournament is planned for this weekend so parking will be at a premium. For more information on the Play On! tournament go online at http://www.playon.ca/events/halifax.
