Last evening, Colchester District RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen camper trailer which was found on a remote logging road near Great Village. While investigating this incident, two men arrived at the location in a truck. The two RCMP officers tried to speak with the occupants of the truck, but the men refused to cooperate. While attempting to arrest the driver, one police officer was dragged by the truck for a short distance, and the police officer was nearly pinned between the truck and the police vehicle. The two men fled the area in the truck, spinning the tires and driving in a reckless manner.
The suspect vehicle was later located by Colchester District RCMP in the Bass River area. After again failing to stop for police, a pursuit was initiated which continued onto Highway 104 in the Eastbound direction. RCMP officers in Pictou District successfully stopped the truck by immobilizing it, using a spike belt, near Exit 19. The two men were then arrested.
No one was hurt during this incident. Colchester District RCMP was assisted by RCMP officers from Millbrook, East Hants, Cumberland, and Pictou Districts. A 19-year-old man from Truro Heights and an 18-year-old man from Great Village have been arrested and both remain in police custody. Charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
