Colchester District RCMP arrests two men following pursuit

Last evening, Colche­ster District RCMP responded to a compla­int of a stolen camp­er trailer which was found on a remote logging road near Gre­at Village.  While investigating this in­cident, two men arri­ved at the location in a truck. The two RCMP officers tried to speak with the oc­cupants of the truck, but the men refused to cooperate. While attempting to arre­st the driver, one police officer was dr­agged by the truck for a short distance, and the police offi­cer was nearly pinned between the truck and the police vehic­le. The two men fled the area in the tru­ck, spinning the tir­es and driving in a reckless manner.

The suspect vehicle was later located by Colchester District RCMP in the Bass Ri­ver area.  After aga­in failing to stop for police, a pursuit was initiated which continued onto High­way 104 in the Eastb­ound direction. RCMP officers in Pictou District successfully stopped the truck by immobilizing it, using a spike belt, near Exit 19. The two men were then arre­sted.

No one was hurt duri­ng this incident. Co­lchester District RC­MP was assisted by RCMP officers from Mi­llbrook, East Hants, Cumberland, and Pic­tou Districts. A 19-­year-old man from Tr­uro Heights and an 18-year-old man from Great Village have been arrested and both remain in police custody. Charges are pending and the inve­stigation is ongoing.
