Cole Harbour Place Will Remain Closed Today

Sunday, March 22, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that Cole Harbour Place will remain closed today for safety reasons, due to the snow load on the roof of the building.

Building maintenance staff and members of Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency helped to clear the drains on the roof of the facility yesterday in anticipation of rain overnight. In the end, the Halifax region didn’t get the total rainfall that was expected; however a significant amount of frozen snow and ice remains on top of the building.

Staff made a decision this morning that the facility should remain closed as a precaution until the snow and ice can be safely removed. A structural assessment will be done later today to determine when that work can be done.

Residents will be notified through another Public Service Announcement when Cole Harbour Place will reopen. The municipality apologizes for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause; however the safety of residents and employees must be our top priority.
