Collision victim may still be on the hook – New Canada, Lunenburg County

At approximately 4:12 p.m. on August 27, Lunenburg District RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Lower Branch Rd.

A pickup truck left the roadway, struck a road sign, and rolled into the ditch. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pinned under it when police arrived. He was extricated, transported to hospital by EHS and treated for minor injuries. The passenger was treated by EHS at the scene and released.

The RCMP officers at the scene noted signs of alcohol impairment on the driver, a 27-year-old man from Lakeside, in the Halifax Region.

Following his medical treatment, he was read the breath demand and transported from the hospital to Cookville RCMP Detachment. Several hours had passed by this time, and the driver’s breath samples still indicated the he had alcohol in his system.

The RCMP is continuing its investigation to determine the driver’s Blood Alcohol Concentration at the time of the collision.

The investigation is ongoing.
