Coloured Tights: An Ode to L-A

L-A: As mentioned last week, we have guest posts from Jo. You can see why I think she’s the cat’s pajamas – she’s got an entire post on coloured tights, which are my favourite thing to wear, after nautical stripes (obvs).

Jo:  Thinking about September VOGUE has me wondering what fall fashion will bring. And then I saw this…and this will be my Ode to L-A, a symphony of coloured tights.

You may recall a great debate about the topic of the place of coloured tights in a professional gal’s work wardrobe. Consensus was essentially “wear what you want”… I didn’t weigh in on the issue, but I respectfully disagree. I love coloured tights and sometimes wear them to work myself. But you’re kidding yourself if you think that what you wear in a professional, corporate environment doesn’t matter. I think it’s a bit naïve to have a “screw you, I will wear what I want” attitude.” It really depends on where you work. One reader’s excellent point was that your message might get diluted. Worse, I think, would be for people not to take you seriously. My notorious middle-of-the road approach is coloured tights, but in muted, gloriously saturated colours. If you work in a corporate or otherwise conservative environment, save the Lite-Brite tights for fun.

BUT this doesn’t stop me from loving coloured tights. And now, without further ado, my Ode to L-A … I don’t even know how I stumbled upon Bonnie and Buttermilk. And the website is entirely in German. All I know is, Sprechen sie awesome

No, I don’t know why the word “milk” is in every shot. Does it mean something in German? “I’m cute” possibly?

Now, let’s be clear. I probably could not pull off half of these looks, but they fill my heart with joy. How joyful would you feel wearing something like this on a craptastic fall Halifax day??

And with sightings at fall 2011 shows, namely Fendi…

…I think coloured tights are around for a while. Just wield their power wisely.

Well, I’m off to watch a Claire Danes marathon, which means I will watch three movies. Why doesn’t she make more movies???

I love you, coloured tights, but I will always be a sucker for black opaques.

L-A: I know Jo will disagree with me on this one, but this is my feelings on coloured tights at work: y’all will have to rip the brightly coloured tights out of my cold dead hands. It’s probably a good thing that the Real Job isn’t in a corporate office.

I’m also pretty sure I need just about everything by that Bonnie and Buttermilk line. If I were made of euros, I’d totally order up like fünf of those der röckes for myself (hey there Intro German! I remember a little bit of you. And not just “I’m drunk”.  I bet Frank the German prof would be proud of me for remembering that skirt is masculine).  But seriously, those skirts are adorbs. I want/need them bad. Does anyone want to sponsor what could become an expensive German skirt habit? No? Well, if you change your mind, you know where to find me. I have a paypal account.

Anyway, in other news (and I apologize, because I’m going to repeat this on Friday as a favourite, but I’m too stoked not to talk about it today): Our West Coast Bureau and I launched our newest project: Lessons from the OC.

You have no idea what it's like to be Marissa Cooper. You also have no idea how much Anthony and I love ourselves some OC.

Honestly, anything that gives me an excuse to have OC marathons is a good thing.
