Commission Creates YouTube Videos for Financial Literacy Month

November is Financial Literacy Month in Canada and to raise awareness, the Nova Scotia Securities Commission has created two YouTube videos aimed at helping Nova Scotians identify fraudulent investments.

“We want to educate potential investors in a lighthearted and creative way,” said Tanya Wiltshire, investor education and communications co-ordinator for the commission. “These videos are meant to do that while providing Nova Scotians with the tools they need to help them make informed investment decisions.”

The Nova Scotia Securities Commission is the provincial government agency that regulates securities trading in the province.

The commission is advising Nova Scotians that criminals will use the latest investing fad, current event or tragedy to create a false or high risk investment opportunity.

The videos are available on the commission’s new YouTube channel at http://m.youtube.com/channel/UC725QouwLYOsuSrkaEqmFBw .

Contact the Nova Scotia Securities Commission at nssc.novascotia.ca if you become aware of any fraudulent activity in Nova Scotia.
