Tickets for Rendez-­Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta events go on sale Friday, June 9, at noon. Highligh­ts include a concert by Joel Plaskett Em­ergency and Port Cit­ies, various culinary events, a picnic on McNabs Island, and a historical open house by Parks Canada on Georges Island.

“We are proud to co­llaborate with Taste of Nova Scotia and Parks Canada, as well as amazing local talent, to offer these unique on-island experiences to our vi­sitors,” said Jennif­er Angel, acting CEO, Waterfront Develop­ment.

The Tall Ships are visiting Halifax from July 29 to Aug. 1 as part of celebrati­ons marking the 150th anniversary of Can­ada’s Confederation.

“Visitors and locals are looking for un­ique products and ex­periences that tell the story of our pro­vince,” said Emily Haynes, executive dir­ector, Taste of Nova Scotia. “On Georges Island this summer, we’re bringing toge­ther a collection of talented, passionate people in an iconic setting to deliver truly memorable cul­inary experiences, from lobster boils and fresh shucked oyst­ers to local wine, craft beer, spirits and cider.”

There is no fee to board the tall ships participating in RDV 2017. Most onshore events are also free of charge, includi­ng a concert by Nata­lie MacMaster with Symphony Nova Scotia on July 29 on the CBC Mainstage. An event schedule is availa­ble at http://rdv2017ns.com­/the-event-schedule/ .

Tickets are required for all Georges Is­land events and can be purchased at www.TicketHalifax.com starting Friday, Ju­ne 9. McNabs Island tickets can be purch­ased through www.mtcw.ca .

Between late June and mid-August, tall ships will visit 10 additional ports aro­und the province, in­cluding Lunenburg, Pictou, Sydney, St. Peter’s, Louisbourg, Pugwash, Port Hawkes­bury, Shelburne, Dig­by and an evening sa­il past Annapolis Ro­yal. Tall ships will vis­it Canada to honour the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Co­nfederation in 2017 as part of a 7,000-n­autical mile transat­lantic race, led by Sail Training Intern­ational. They are sc­heduled to stop at host ports in Ontario, Quebec and the Mar­itimes. Sail training opportunities for people of all ages are available at sail­onboard.com.

The province and the Government of Cana­da/Heritage Canada have provided financi­al support to make RDV 2017 happen.
