Community Health board giving out funding for small projects, and seeks new members

Hey everyone,

I’m posting two notices on behalf of the Chebucto West Community Health Board. The board is A) Looking to GIVE YOU MONEY through a program of small grants called the Community Development Fund, and B) Looking FOR YOUR HELP if you want to sit on the board.

Full disclosure: I sit on the Chebucto West Community Health board, which is a great organization designed to listen to the community’s health needs and take those concerns back to Capital Health. The issues that come up are things like: do we have the right kind of free exercise programs in our area? How about breakfast programs in our schools? Do we have the right kind of supports so people can quit smoking? Can teens get condoms in their school’s sexual health centre?

The health board is funded through Capital Health, and is composed of 15 regular people from our area. I’m one of those people. I don’t receive payment for sitting on this board, but I do lend my skills to their work. So I’m posting this partially because I sit on the board, but I also think this info could be important to people in our neighbourhood (particularly the grants!).
