Early voting surpasses 2017 numbers but lags behind 2021 turnout

Elections Nova Scotia has shared the latest early voting numbers for the 42nd Provincial General Election, giving us a snapshot of how things are shaping up by day 5. So far, 108,536 early votes have been cast—better than 2017 but not quite hitting the 2021 pace. The stats cover everything from returning office polls to community and advance polls, plus write-in ballots. While the numbers show some encouraging signs, there’s room for improvement as Nova Scotians make their voices heard.

Early Voting Daily Statistics – As of Thursday, November 21, 2024

Elections Nova Scotia – During the early voting period, Elections Nova Scotia (ENS) provides daily statistics on early voting for the 42nd Provincial General Election (PGE) each morning.

The daily stats reflect early voting numbers as of the close of polls (6 pm) the previous day. The stats include the number of votes cast at early voting opportunities including the returning office continuous polls (ROCPs), as well as community polls and advanced polls when they open as well as the number of write-in ballot applications processed. These numbers add to make the total number of early votes cast as of that date in the PGE.

ENS also provides a comparison of these daily stats with the early voting stats from the 2021 PGE.

Media outlets requested a comparison of the early voting stats with the 2017 PGE as well as the 2021. To be helpful and provide a fuller picture, we are now including the 2017 early voting stats in these daily reports. It is important to remember the results for the 2017 PGE reflect the previous 51 electoral districts as defined in 2012. A transposition of votes report is available on the Elections Nova Scotia website. That report illustrates how the votes from the 2017 PGE fit with the 55 electoral districts defined in 2019.
