Nova Scotians are invited to share their views on proposed changes to the building code regulations for home-based businesses.
The proposed changes would bring clarity and support consistent use of the regulations for businesses operated in homes.
“Small business is important to Nova Scotia’s economy,” said Minister of Municipal Affairs Zach Churchill. “These proposed changes would reduce the regulatory burden for home-based businesses and avoid unnecessary costs for owners.”
The proposed changes would exempt home-based businesses from certain building code rules intended for commercial spaces if the business occupies less than 25 per cent – or 50 square metres of a residence.
Businesses will still have to meet all municipal zoning and land use bylaws.
Nova Scotians are asked to submit their comments on the proposed changes by May 20.
