Consultation on Voluntary Exclusion from Casinos

Nova Scotians can help improve a program for voluntary exclusion from casinos by sharing their feedback.

An online consultation begins today, Dec. 3 and continues until Monday, Dec. 31.

“We are committed to responsible gambling. We have reviewed the research, and want to make sure our regulations are supporting people who need time away from gambling in the best way possible,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister Karen Casey, who is responsible for Part 1 of the Gaming Control Act.

Currently, people can choose to permanently exclude themselves from provincial casinos in Halifax and Sydney. Across the country, people have the option to select shorter and different time frames for exclusion from casinos. Research suggests this provides a greater incentive for participation.

The Department of Finance and Treasury Board is looking for public feedback on:

  • the length of time for exclusion from casinos
  • the process for being allowed back into the casinos
  • what happens when someone enters a casino after excluding themselves

All Nova Scotians are welcome to participate in the survey, at https://novascotia.ca/voluntary-exclusion-consultation/” .
