TheOffice of the Fire Marshal has issued an advisory banning the use of consumer fireworks in any areas under a burning ban.
For the purposes of this advisory consumer fireworks are the outdoor, low-altitude, recreational fireworks sold by retail outlets. The restriction does not apply to event-related use of fireworks if they are done with local fire department consultation and presence. This ban also does not apply to display fireworks which are used with the approval of a local authority. "Fireworks and tinder-dry woods do not mix," said Fire Marshal Harold Pothier. "With continued dry conditions the risks are simply too high to allow unrestricted use of fireworks." The fire marshal encourages residents to check the Department of Natural Resources website for updates on burning restrictions at novascotia.ca/burnsafe . Anyone living in a red zone on the map, where burning is prohibited, is not allowed to use consumer fireworks. Conditions remain very dry and currently no domestic brush burning or campfires are permitted across the province due to the high risk of wildfires.
