Most sunscreens specifically formulated for the face claim to be oil-free or non-greasy but I haven’t come across one that didn’t leave my face in a horrible state of breakouts. Until COOLA. I featured COOLA on Natural Mommie a couple years ago, brought the brand with me last year when I went to Cancun and this year there was no question as to which brand I’d be using while traveling to the Riviera Maya this month!

COOLA had me hooked mainly based on the fact that they’re an all natural, organic sunscreen that is PABA, paraben, petroleum and pthalate free, but also because their products smell incredible. While cocnut-y goodness has a place in my heart while on the beach, I can’t get enough of citrus mimosa, mango and cucumber.

All week I used their Mineral Face Matte Finish Cucumber SPF 30. And all week, my face, not even my nose, burned.  It’s noncomedogenic so I had no breakouts all week long. I was completely amazed. The feel of this sunblock is almost primer-like, it’s not greasy in the least and doesn’t leave my face looking ghostly white from the SPF. It’s not heavy, it’s not chalky, it smells exactly like cucumbers and is the perfect size for travel.

coola suncare: organic sunscreen sunblock Have you always thought that SPF 60 would give you double the protection of SPF 30? It’s not the case and this is exactly why the FDA is putting a cap on high SPFs. SPF 30 provides skin with 97% protection, where as SPF 60 provides skin with 98-98.6% protection. There is less than 1.6% difference in protection factor.

I’ll be honest and say I  was a little scared of testing out SPF 30 for the first time in Mexican sun.  But it turns out, the above is true and COOLA’s SPF 30 products worked awesome.

COOLA Mineral Sport SPF 30 was a pleasure to review as well. The scent {citrus mimosa} is lovely, it’s easy to apple and I love the flip top cap that sand can’t make its way into. With this sunblock you’ll get the best broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection during your activities in the most extreme outdoor conditions.  Organic Beeswax along with Candelilla and Carnauba Waxes give you all natural water resistance as you surf, ski, sun or sweat and again – it’s light and smells amazing.

Some of the burns I saw in Mexico literally made me sick to my stomach. Raw, bubbled, oozing burns that were totally unnecessary! If you think you need to burn to get a tan, think again. I applied sunblock everyday, didn’t burn and have an amazing tan. Even the red-head that was with us applied sunscreen like crazy and went home with some color!

Now the trick is going to be to remember to use it everyday while at home. Thankfully I have this in my makeup bag as a reminder in the morning.
