Amendments introduced today, Oct. 2, to the Correctional Services Act, better reflect current practices and technology.
The Correctional Services Act governs correctional services processes and activities.
Changes include:
— wording to allow more technologies for offender visiting and communications
— wording to reflect practices for transporting offenders
— clarifying that victims only need to be advised of permanent transfers to other correctional facilities or the penitentiary
— updating references of electronic monitoring to electronic supervision and adjusting the definition to include modern technologies
— reassigning positions that no longer exist
— updating the definition of committal order to include regulation-making authorities other than judges
The correctional services division of the Department of Justice administers and operates community- and custody-based programs and services for adult offenders and young people.
