Correctional Services Week Recognized

Correctional Services employees are being celebrated this week for the work they do to keep our communities safe.

Correctional Service Week runs until Saturday, May 19. It recognizes the exceptional skills, professionalism, and commitment of correctional services staff, agencies and partners.

Staff includes probation officers, youth workers, correctional officers, social workers, teachers, case management officers, program and support staff and managers.

“It’s my honour as Minister of Justice to help celebrate the contributions of our dedicated Correctional Services staff,” said Mark Furey, Attorney General and Minister of Justice. ” The work of all those who provide correctional programs and services is extremely challenging and they deserve our respect, appreciation and recognition.”

Employee recognition awards are being presented at a ceremony today, May 17, in Halifax, as part of this week’s celebration.

“Employee recognition awards provide opportunity for us to recognize our employees and their daily contributions to Correctional Services,” said Chris Collett, executive director of Correctional Services with the Department of Justice. “Today we got to hear some of the great work our staff are doing. I am proud to say we are Correctional Services.”

The awards recognize community partnerships, quality service, innovation, leadership and bravery.
