Councillor Outhit surprised at lack of pumps

Bedford councillor Tim Outhit is investigating why HRM, EMO, and Halifax Fire do not have pumps to help folks when they experience flooding.

Outhit was called to the home of some seniors on Union Street Sunday evening, after the Sackville River overflowed in the drainage system used to control runoff.

“HRM management and HRM Fire responded with me very quickly,” says Outhit, “but I was surprised to learn that we do not have pumps available to assist residents!”

Outhit have requested that our CAO and our Deputy Fire Chief investigate the cost of some appropriate pumps, and any required policy or liability issues around the issue.

Also of note, HRM and Halifax Water staff are monitoring Fish Hatchery Park to see if the Remembrance Day service can be held safely at the cenotaph. Outhit has been in contact with the Bedford Legion, and if the area is not safe it will move it to DeWolf Park. A final assessment will be made on Wednesday.
