Crews Prepare for Winter Weather Event

Plows and salt trucks across the province are ready for snow forecasted for tonight and into Wednesday morning.

A mix of snow and rain is expected that may create slippery conditions for commuters Wednesday morning, particularly in the central part of the province. Crews are pre-wetting roads using brine throughout the day and will salt and sand roads as needed. Plows are prepared to roll once the snow begins.

Drivers should adjust travel plans accordingly, drive to conditions, turn lights on so tail lights are visible and leave plenty of space between cars. It’s also a good idea to have winter tires installed and to keep an emergency kit in the car.

During a winter event plow operators work 24/7 to ensure roads are safe. The department has more than 400 pieces of snow and ice clearing equipment that are deployed during a storm. Nothing is held back.

Nova Scotians can check road conditions, view highway cameras, see plowing priorities, track plows and much more using the live plow-tracker tool at novascotia.ca/tran/winter.

During a storm or any winter event follow @NS_TIR on Twitter and 511 for the latest road condition updates.
