CrossFitting in PEI at CrossFit Summerside

While I was home on vacation I wanted to make sure I didn’t let my workouts slide too much because I knew my diet was going to, so I researched gyms on the island and found out that there was a CrossFit gym.  Actually, there were TWO…YAY!!!  I reached out to both of them and lined up a few workouts at CrossFit Summerside before I headed to PEI.

I’ve been doing CrossFit and CrossFit style workouts on my own for over 5 years, but this would only be the second time I’ve ever worked out at an actual CrossFit gym.  I reached out to Jeff, the owner, via email and filled him in on my level of experience and told him that I was looking to workout while home and he welcomed me into his gym with open arms.

I worked out twice at the CFSS while I was home and really enjoyed it there. The gym members were VERY friendly and welcoming, Jeff is a great trainer, and the WODs were good and tough.  I think the best part about it is that I actually learned something and I really wasn’t expecting to.

After working out there for the first time, I was impressed with Jeff’s knowledge and his teaching approach!  He took the time, care and effort to make sure he demoed the workouts, spent 10-15 minutes getting everyone to work through the exercises and made sure everyone’s form was right.  In this case it was the snatch.  I had never really done the snatch before and I was scared I wasn’t going to do it right, but he watched me, corrected me and got me to the point where I could do the WODs.  At this point in time I just want to point out that YES, I do know what “I had never really done the snatch before” sounds like and what  “got me to the point where I could do the WODs” sounds like, so stop laughing and just keep reading.

Jeff has  been doing CrossFit for about 4 years and he’s been a level 1 trainer for 2 years. He also has a CrossFit gymnastics certification and he helps teach the gymnastics certs as well. The next step for Jeff personally is to get to an Olympic Lifting certification and an endurance cert in the next year. For the gym, he is in the midst of growing the gym size physically by 40% and wants to keep growing his clientele as much as he did in the first year. His goal is to be at 75 members by this time next year.

In a heartbeat, I would tell anyone and everyone to workout at CrossFit Summerside.  Jeff knows his stuff and of course, it’s CrossFit and it’s awesome. So, if you’re ever in Prince Edward Island, look them up and get your sweat on.
