Crown Attorney Appointed in Bridgewater

Janice Rea has been appointed a Crown attorney in Bridgewater.

Martin Herschorn, director of public prosecutions, announced the appointment today, Oct. 16.

“Ms. Rea’s lengthy prosecutorial experience and her expertise in complex prosecutions make her a solid addition to our team of Crown attorneys,” said Mr. Herschorn.

A native of Winnipeg, Ms. Rea graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1990 with a bachelor of arts, in 1999 with a bachelor of social work and in 2002 with a bachelor of laws. She articled with Bennett Jones in Calgary.

In 2003 Ms. Rea was appointed a Crown prosecutor in Calgary, where she was assigned to general prosecutions and worked mostly on domestic violence cases. In 2010 Ms. Rea moved to the organized crime unit in specialized prosecutions where she managed complex prosecutions, often with multiple co-accused persons and wiretap evidence.

Ms. Rea volunteered as a coach of the University of Calgary moot team for the National Trial Advocacy Competition from 2004 to 2014. Ms. Rea has also been an instructor of many Crown courses in Alberta including presentations on advocacy, sexual assault, hearsay evidence and managing confidential informants.
