The Public Prosecution Service has appointed Carla Ball and Sean McCarroll as Crown attorneys in the Halifax office.
Martin Herschorn, director of public prosecutions, announced the appointment today, Sept. 26.
“I’m very pleased that Ms.
Ball and Mr. McCarroll have joined our team of Crown attorneys,” said Mr. Herschorn. “Their talent and enthusiasm will be an asset to the Public Prosecution Service.”
A native of Halifax, Ms. Ball graduated in 2000 from Saint Mary’s University with a bachelor of arts in Political Science, and in 2003 from Dalhousie University with a masters of arts in Political Science. Ms. Ball graduated from Dalhousie University Law School in 2006.
She articled with Boyne Clarke Barristers and Solicitors in Dartmouth, and in 2007, was appointed an associate with Arnold Pizzo McKiggan.
In 2008, Ms. Ball joined the Public Prosecution Service of Canada as a Crown prosecutor in Nunavut. Two years later, she joined the Alberta Department of Justice as a Crown prosecutor in Calgary.
Ms. Ball is a former executive member of the Nunavut Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and a former Northern representative of the National Criminal Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association.
A native of Saint John, N.B., Sean McCarroll graduated in 2003 from the University of New Brunswick with a bachelor of arts, and in 2006, from the University of King’s College with a bachelor of journalism. He worked as a journalist for the next two years before entering Dalhousie University Schulich School of Law, and graduated in 2011.
He articled with Boyne Clarke in Dartmouth, later extending his articles to join the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service. As a student, he worked with a senior Crown attorney on arraignments, trials and sentencings. After being called to the Bar in 2012, Mr. McCarroll became a per diem Crown Attorney for the Public Prosecution Service.
While in law school, Mr. McCarroll participated in the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, advancing to the final round of national championship in Calgary.
